A few weeks ago Mrs. Field, our media specialist, visited our geography class to share about her travels to Morocco and Egypt. Her first-hand stories and photos gave gave us an authentic experience to supplement our study of the continent of Africa. Mrs. Field has not let an injury slow her down while meeting the media needs of our school.
Last Thursday, Mrs. Gunn invited our geography class to join hers for a Chinese New Year celebration. Her room looked almost like an authentic Chinese restaurant. It was decorated with red student-made Chinese lanterns and red spring couplets, and the tables were spread with red checked tablecloths and red plates. Several students even dressed in red, the official color of Chinese New Year.

We will be celebrating Chinese New Year together with Mrs. Gunn's geography class this Thursday, February 7, as part of our current unit of study on China. We are asking students to bring in homemade or take-out Chinese food that day to share with each other. Parents, if you would like to deliver hot Chinese food on Thursday, please have it at school by noon. Mrs. Gunn will be providing the hot tea for our celebration.
In geography we have been studying the countries of the Middle East. As part of that study we examined the three major world religions that originated in the region and compared their beliefs. We took the familiar double Venn diagram graphic organizer to the next level and used a triple Venn to organize our findings regarding Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Students used information from the geography textbook and research from the internet to complete this task, and each student's Venn was different. I thought Aramis did a great job by including many interesting facts and neatly organizing his findings.
